TEEN WRITING

Artists and art lovers
will be having a lot of fun this March. Laura Craig, founder and director of Mount Kisco's Irrelevant Elephant art studio, will be hosting two art workshops at the library, both focusing on figure drawing for teens – a class for 9-12 students on Friday, March 15, and another for 7-12 on Friday, March 22.

Craig has an MFA in Art Education and a BFA in Fine Arts, but her classes are anything but stuffy. The Irrelevant Elephant studio teaches everything essential to making and loving art in a fun, unique way, and the classes are incredibly diverse - everything from wine-and-paint nights for adults to cartooning groups for fourth graders. She says of the upcoming program, "I hope to give the students some basic knowledge on proportions and a few tricks for capturing a likeness." Both classes will be relaxed and casual.

Check out her website ieartstudio.com for more details.

The Dark Knight
Rated PG-13

"Why so serious?" School got you in the mid-semester blues? Take a break, this Friday with The Dark Knight at the Chappaqua Library On Friday, March 1st, the library will be hosting a special screening of the movie in the theater from 3:00 to 5:45. During this event, 7th-12th graders are invited to relax, and watch the classic film!

The Dark Knight is a 2008 superhero film directed and produced by Christopher Nolan. Based on the DC Comic Batman, the film is the second part of Nolan's Batman film series and a sequel to 2005's Batman Begins. Christian Bale plays the lead role of Bruce Wayne/Batman, with a returning cast of Gary Oldman as James Gordon, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox. The film follows new character Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Gotham's newly elected District Attorney and close friend of Bruce's childhood friend Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal). Together, the two join Batman and the police in combating the new rising threat of a criminal mastermind calling himself "The Joker" (Heath Ledger).

The Dark Knight Rises
Rated PG-13

By: Dhara Nayyar

Curious to know how The Dark Knight triliogy will finally end? Find out at the Chappaqua library this Friday! On Friday, March 8th, the library will be hosting a special screening of The Dark Knight Rises in the theater from 3:00 to 5:45. During this event, 7th-12th graders are invited to relax, and watch the classic film!

The Dark Knight Rises is a 2012 superhero film directed by Christopher Nolan featuring the DC Comics character Batman, the film is the final installment in Nolan's Batman film trilogy, and it is the sequel to Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008). Christian Bale reprises his lead role of Bruce Wayne/Batman for the last time. Of course, the movie would be incomplete without a returning cast of his allies: Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as James Gordon, and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox. The film also introduces Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway), a sly, morally ambiguous cat burglar, and Bane (Tom Hardy), a mercenary fixed on destroying Gotham City. Drawn back into action by new threats facing the city, an older Bruce Wayne is forced to come out of retirement and embody Batman once again.

Anyone interested in seeing The Dark Knight Rises should contact us, or simply stop by! Donna, the teen librarian, can be reached at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or at (914)-238-4779 at extension 131.

Will Batman be able to save Gotham? There's only one way to find out – join us in watching the movie! We hope to see you soon!
